From an early age I have been a fan of British actress Diana Rigg. As a boy, she was probably my first crush. How could I resist a good-looking woman, dressed in black leather, who threw the bad guys over her shoulder and accomplishing it with a dry sense of humour and a twinkle in her eye? Patrick Macnee was one lucky man to have her as his sleuthing partner Emma Peel in The Avengers.

While Emma is probably her best remembered role, some time ago my wife Bonnie created a lens about Diana Rigg highlighting her many acting accomplishments over the years. Since The Avengers, television and movies have not really been her preferred medium. Instead, she is one of the UK's leading stage actresses having appeared in many of the classics.

It was while she was appearing at a local theatre that I eventually met her. Having watched her tread the boards, I waited at the stage door to accomplish one of those things on my bucket list: talk to this woman whose career I had followed religiously all my life and to get her autograph. She did not let me down. She stood and spoke with me for a while and graciously signed my programme. This was probably one of my cloud nine moments.

But enough about me. Of course, Bonnie knows of this obsession. My stack of Avengers DVDs was her first clue! So, with all this information at her fingertips it was no surprise that she created one of my favourite SquidWhos - Who is Diana Rigg?

If you'd like to find out a lot more about my obsession, please take a moment to hop over to the lens and take a look. Personally, I think it's worth a Purple Star. But as I don't know how to nominate it...and judging by the picture below, Diana is worth a Purple Star all herself ;)

Chris De Burgh In Concert

Being something of a music buff, it's always a treat to find a wonderful Squid Who lens featuring a musical artist from my favourite era, the Seventies and Eighties. And it makes it a double treat to find out that one of my lenses was the inspiration.

So, I was really looking forward to seeing kimmanleyort's lens highlighting the very talented Chris De Burgh. And I wasn't disappointed! I have always been a fan of this Irishman's storytelling style of output, and a couple of his excellent albums are included in my audio collection. It seems that Kim is a big fan too, having been introduced to De Burgh's music by her husband.

Most people think of Chris De Burgh's song The Lady in Red when they hear his name. While this is a great track, there is so much more to enjoy from his thirty plus years of international hit making. This is where Kim steps in and expertly spotlights the very best of De Burgh, including videos, personal commentary on each album she highlights as well as a chance to vote on a favourite track.

So, if all you know about Chris De Burgh is The Lady in Red, or whether you are a long time fan, Kim's lens about the man will be a feast for your eyes and ears.

Quatro Relaxes

A couple of years ago, Bonnie created a lens about the British glam rockers of the 1970s. Since then, it has gone on to be one of her most successful creations on Squidoo, having been nominated as one of the best music lenses in 2008 and receiving a Purple Star early on when that programme started.

One of the goals of this lens was the intention to build other linked lenses about the music artists featured there. Several have been created, amongst them a tribute to American rocker, Suzi Quatro.

Now, memories of Ms Quatro are different depending on where you were located during the height of her success in the 1970s.

If, like me, you were of a certain age in the UK, Suzi Quatro was the Queen of Glam Rock, predating artists like The Runaways and Joan Jett by several years. She was one of two major American artists, along with Alice Cooper, who embraced this musical genre wholeheartedly, and became an honourary Brit in the process.

She achieved several huge hit records in the UK and other parts of the world, but the same success eluded her in her homeland. In the US, she was not recognised by the public until she appeared in a few episodes of the sit-com Happy Days, and then went on to finally hit the Billboard charts with the song Stumblin' In, a duet with Chris Norman of Smokie.

Bonnie has created a wonderful reminder of the heyday of Suzi Quatro, including videos of her most well known songs, along with a little history about how her success came about. So, wherever you may be, why not step into the time machine and travel back to find out just Who is Suzi Quatro?

I have to admit that my knowledge of the mime genre has only ever really stretched to the French mime artist, Marcel Marceau, who used to appear fairly regularly on British television when I was growing up.

However, Squidoo lensmaster, kab, introduces her readers to Swiss mime troupe, Mummenschanz, who use eccentric clay masks and extraordinary forms as part of their carefully choreographed act.

In the United States, kab reminds us that they are best remembered for a three year run on Broadway between 1977 and 1979 and for a guest appearance on The Muppet Show in the mid 1970s.

kab uses videos from The Muppet Show, and elsewhere, to highlight this troupe's unique talents and challenging routines which you should really see to believe at her excellent SquidWho: Mummenschanz: The Swiss Mime Troupe.

David Bowie

Having been something of a science fiction fan from my teenage years, it was not surprising that I was drawn to song titles such as Space Oddity, Starman, Life On Mars? and The Jean Genie.

When these songs were recorded, David Bowie was at the height of his Ziggy Stardust period, and this was just the beginning of his many rock'n'roll personae. Over the years, Bowie has become something of a musical chameleon, shifting and changing the style of his music along with his image. And not necessarily to satisfy the latest "here today, gone tomorrow" fad.

Lensmaster rms (Robin) brings her passion for this evergreen singer to her SquidWho lens Who is David Bowie? Like many of us, Robin has grown and changed alongside the metamorphosis of Bowie, but her one constant is her devotion to the man's music and career. As she writes herself, "As he grew and changed, I found myself maturing and changing right along with him."

Her lens reminds us of those changes from a career that has now spanned five decades, showing the visitor many highlights, not only from his music, but also from his sporadic foray into acting.

If you have a love for the evolution of Bowie, then Robin has you covered.

I am probably not the best person to be writing about Correen's SquidWho lens Who is Dr. Bronner, Plus Great Organic Products? The closest I usually get to making a decision about soap is trying to remember which aisle they keep the Dial in at the store.

But having read the lens, we might just change our minds about the product we use. We're thinking that we may pamper ourselves with some of these soapy delights created by the eccentric Dr. Bronner.

You'll find out more about the good Doctor as Correen takes us on an aromatic journey of organic cleanliness, promising us that at least one of the soaps on offer "leaves a tingly sensation on your sensitive areas when using it in the shower". There's only one or two things that do that to me in the shower, and I know one of them isn't Dial! Going green will never feel so good!

That's right, all of Dr. Bronner's products are environmentally friendly, so using them will not only get you going green, but saving the planet will be a pleasure. And you don't have to just use them for your personal hygiene, they are also great for your other household needs...like cleaning your counter top, your car or even your dog's kennel. Down Rover!

So why not slip on over, get yourself in a lather and find out more about Dr. Bronner's place?

I think it is about time we opened the doors of Squid Who? again! It's been a while and the cobwebs and dust have built up, so an early Spring clean is in order.

The intention here was, and still is, to highlight the best of Squidoo's SquidWho template. That means delving into Squidoo and finding those diamonds in the rough that need a little extra attention. This is something I and Bonnie shall be doing over the coming weeks and months, and bringing them to you here.

Yes, we'll show off a few that one or the other of us has created, because after all, we're going to need a little love and attention too :)

But the emphasis will be on those talented lensmasters who have taken advantage of SquidWho, and made it their own. This is where you may be able to help. Do you have a fantastic SquidWho lens, or have you seen one that you think we could feature here? If you have, let us know with just a few words why and we'll do our best to add it.

In the meantime, stay tuned...and thank you!

A smoky texture

I discovered a wonderful SquidWho not so long ago by fellow lensmaster OhMe (Nancy). It's not your usual SquidWho, because while it highlights a very important character, he's not your normal celebrity guy either.

Nancy brings us Roy G. Biv, a colorful personality, who you might not have had the pleasure of meeting. I'm not going to say too much, only that Roy has fun educating kids and adults alike in a "spectrum" of ways.

In the United Kingdom he is known by another name, Richard of York, from the phrase "Richard of York Gave Battle In Vain" which is a reference to an historical event occurring in England.

Either way, Roy or Richard, have been around for some time helping children learn, as well as reminding those of us who may have bad memories that a rainbow is not just about a "pot of gold".

So, why not bring some color to your day and find out all about Roy G. Biv?

Here's a clue:

Leona Lewis Signs Copies Of New Book 'Dreams'

From humble beginnings to international superstardom, Leona Lewis’ success came by way of the UK talent show, The X-Factor. Her soaring vocals and humble demeanor, quite frankly, ensured that she would win the competition, and so she did back in December, 2006.

Her first single, A Moment Like This, became the fastest selling single in the UK, and the follow-up Bleeding Love topped the charts around the world. Her first album, Spirit, followed and became the sixth best selling in the world in 2008. Not bad for a girl from Islington, London whose daytime job was as a receptionist.

November 2009 see the release of her latest album Echo and the superb first single from it called “Happy”, which you can enjoy below. Future plans see Leona Lewis taking on her first world tour, beginning in May, 2010.

As a tribute to this talented young lady, I have created a SquidWho lens highlighting her career so far. From her days as an “X-Factor” contestant to her latest successes, you can enjoy the videos to her songs as well as find out more about this latest singing sensation.

Linda Thorson

Canadian actress Linda Thorson came to international attention in 1968 when she won the role of Tara King in the long running British television series, "The Avengers'.

Only 20-years-old at the time, she had large leather boots to fill following the hugely popular Diana Rigg who starred as John Steed's partner, Emma Peel. In fact, she has often been criticized for the way in which she portrayed Tara King, but the fault really was that of the producers who wanted Steed's new partner to exhibit differing characteristics than those of her predecessors.

Once "The Avengers' finished, Ms Thorson's television appearances were sporadic, and she was unfortunately the only Avengers girl not picked for a role in a James Bond movie.

She was much more successful in theater roles, however. In 1982 she won a Theatre World Award for her part in 'Steaming', and brought her comedic talents to the fore in 'Noises Off'.

Most recently, she has been seen in the British soap opera 'Emmerdale' playing the villainous Rosemary King.

More information about Linda Thorson, including videos and pictures can be found here.
